Tech in an effort to lessen their dependency on China, Japan and the European Union intend to begin discussions on working together on cutting-edge materials for next-generation processors and batteries, the Nikkei said on Saturday.
In a written interview, EU commissioner for innovation and research Iliana Ivanova told the Business Daily that creating a framework for such interaction in areas of shared interest would be advantageous to both parties.
According to the Nikkei, the framework—which will be unveiled as early as April in response to an EU—is intended to lessen dependency on China for resources like rare metals, which are essential components for things like electric car batteries.
